For the past eight years, David has been a prosecutor in the Denver District Attorney's office having served under both Mitchell Morrissey and Governor Bill Ritter. Most of David's career has focused on family and domestic conflict. David was assigned to the Family Violence Unit where he was responsible for prosecuting intensely traumatic criminal cases that occurred in domestic and family settings, including felony domestic violence, child abuse, and child sexual assault.
During his time as a Senior Deputy District Attorney, David prosecuted and tried some of Denver's most serious, complex and high-profile criminal cases. He is probably best known as one of the two prosecutors on the People v. Jon Richard Phillips case, in which he successfully prosecuted and obtained a murder conviction of the man that locked a young boy in a closet and starved him to death. Mr. Phillips’ girlfriend, also a participant in the crime, pled guilty to second degree murder and was sentenced to 48 years in prison. David’s extensive negotiation and courtroom trial experience in high-stakes, high-conflict matters will serve him well in Family Law. More importantly, while every person and every case is different, David understands the emotional dynamics of adults and children who are dealing with domestic trauma, crisis and transition.
